Michael Sharp
Investment and Trade Commissioner for North East Asia
Michael is the Investment and Trade Commissioner for North East Asia and works as part of Invest and Trade Western Australia.
As Investment and Trade Commissioner, Michael and his team based in Japan and South Korea work to attract investment and grow trade opportunities for Western Australian businesses in North East Asia.
Michael has a strong background in governance, strategic policy and stakeholder engagement and has led a range of complex projects at the Western Australian Department of Education to support government priorities. He is passionate about education exchange and supporting business opportunities in Western Australia from the North East Asia region.
Michael has previously lived in Japan, speaks fluent Japanese and has a strong understanding of Japanese and South Korean cultures.
Michael has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Japanese and a Diploma of Education from The University of Western Australia.

WA-Korea Networking Function
Last month Invest and Trade Western Australia hosted a networking function for the Korean delegation in Perth.
Among the attendees were the Ambassador of Korea to Australia His Excellency Kim Wan-Joong, Deputy President of Korea Midland Power (KOMIPO) Mr Park Young Kyu, Honorary Consul of Korea in Western Australia Ms Fay Duda, Western Australian Investment and Trade Commissioner for Northeast Asia Nicole Fasana, and Western Australian industry representatives from the critical minerals, batteries and hydrogen sector.
Simone Spencer, Deputy Director General of Strategy and International Engagement at the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation acted as MC for the evening.
Attendees heard from the Hon Bill Johnston MLA, Western Australian Minister for Mines and Petroleum; Energy; Hydrogen Industry and Industrial Relations as well as Mr Ki-Ho Han, Chairman of the Korea-Australia Parliamentary Friendship Group.
The Western Australian Government is committed to deepening ties with our South Korean partners.
The networking function coincided with the Korean War Memorial Launch and follows the successful mission led by then Premier McGowan to South Korea earlier this year.
During this time, the Western Australian Government signed a Letter of Intent for cooperation with South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
