Energy
A global powerhouse for energy exports.
Western Australia is a State of Energy
Western Australia is set to become a global energy powerhouse.
The State is home to some of the best renewable energy sources in the world, including a large landmass, abundant sunshine, consistent wind, and rich reserves of critical minerals and rare earths essential for manufacturing batteries, electric vehicles, wind turbines and solar panels. As a major exporter of natural gas, Western Australia is also supporting international partners in their shift away from coal-fired power.
Backed by proven expertise, strong policy frameworks and a commitment to innovation, Western Australia is ready to lead the transformation to a low-carbon future. The State is also investing in infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities to support the clean energy transition, while our geological formations, skilled workforce and infrastructure make Western Australia the ideal destination for development of carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) hubs.
Western Australia is also committed to producing renewable hydrogen at scale and adding value through downstream products.
Quick facts

Opportunities
Renewable Hydrogen Information Portal
An online portal for industry and investors to help identify possible sites for large-scale renewable energy and hydrogen production across Western Australia. The interactive mapping tool brings together multiple datasets to guide the prospecting process.
Battery and Critical Minerals Strategy
Building on our existing mining and mineral processing expertise, Western Australia has established a global-scale midstream critical minerals industry. Further investment opportunities are supported by increasing demand and global initiatives to diversify supply chains.
LNG Jobs Taskforce
The LNG Jobs Taskforce is a collaboration between government, industry and unions to create new opportunities for industry on the back of Western Australia's competitively priced gas supply and position as a global LNG hub, servicing Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific region. The Taskforce comprises of three Working Groups that are chaired by Woodside Energy, Chevron Australia and Shell Australia. These Working Groups focus on projects relating to energy workforce capability, decommissioning, and decarbonisation and emissions reduction.
