Our Deputy Director
Simone Spencer | Deputy Director General - Strategy and International Engagement
Simone is the Deputy Director General, Strategy and International Engagement at the Western Australian Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation. Simone and her team provide strategic policy advice on state economic development issues and help to both shape and promote investment and trade opportunities.
Key areas of focus for Simone and her team include economic diversification, industry decarbonisation and fostering a cohesive approach to the State’s long-term economic development including leading Invest and Trade Western Australia, the State’s ‘front door’ for investors and exporters.
Showcasing WA education and training to Southeast Asia
Between October and December 2024, the Western Australia for Study ASEAN Education Roadshow (the Roadshow) visited 11 cities across Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, showcasing WA as a premier study destination.
Led by Invest and Trade Western Australia’s Education Business Development Managers in the ASEAN Hub, the Roadshow engaged over 500 educators, school advisers, education agents, WA education and training institutions and Government representatives.
The Roadshow kicked off in Malaysia and Indonesia with sessions held in Kuala Lumpur, Malang, Gading Serpong, Bandung Balikpapan, Makssar and Denpasar.
It continued to Vietnam and concluded in Manila, Philippines, where attendees were welcomed by Western Australia’s Investment and Trade Commissioner for ASEAN.
The Roadshow facilitated in the forging of new relationships and enhancing existing ones, and enabled attendees to gain valuable insights into WA’s education and training programs designed for international students.
Attendees also learnt about WA's scholarships offerings, such as the prestigious Western Australian Premier’s University Scholarship Program and the Western Australian Premier’s $20,000 Western Australia Certificate of Education (WACE) Bursary.
The Roadshow presented attendees with a valuable opportunity to build strategic partnerships and discover why WA is the destination for quality education and training.
Attendees listened to insightful panel discussions between industry leaders and guest speakers, as well as participate in collaborative and networking activities.
Representatives from 24 leading WA education and training organisations highlighted a variety of world-class tailored programs designed to equip international students with the essential skills needed for workforce success.
Key partner StudyPerth offered attendees in each city the chance to win 2 return flight tickets to discover Perth in 2025. The initiative is giving 22 winners firsthand experience of WA’s lifestyle and education opportunities on offer to international students.
The Roadshow aimed to strengthen relationships with ASEAN partners and position WA as the premier destination for quality education and fostering employability.
