Western Australia heads to World Expo 2025 Osaka

Western Australia is going to World Expo 2025 Osaka!

World Expo is a major global event held every five years, bringing nations together to share ideas and solutions to some of the world’s biggest challenges.

Over 161 nations are expected to participate at Expo 2025 Osaka, with 28 million visitors are expected over the 183 days of the event.

The Western Australian (WA) Government, through Invest and Trade WA, is a Gold Partner of the Australian Pavilion with a program of WA activations to take place across Expo 2025.

WA culinary experiences and First nations talent to feature at Expo

Staff at the Australian Pavilion will also feature a truly unique WA First Nations touch by wearing the official uniform designed by Kirrikin, a 100% Aboriginal-owned social enterprise, and Noongar artist Buffie Punch.

The artwork reflects a deep connection to Country and culture and celebrates WA’s unique natural beauty and First Nations heritage, featuring vibrant motifs of iconic local flora, including the golden wattle, banksia and eucalyptus blossoms.

With 15,000 people from across the world expected to visit the Australia Pavilion at Expo per day, visitors will experience an insight into WA’s unique natural beauty, culture and heritage, as well as celebrating First Nations innovation on the global stage.

Local guest chef Silas Masih, owner and Head Chef of the Pepper and Salt restaurant in Denmark, has been selected as the WA guest chef and later this year will be providing a taste of WA to Expo VIP delegates with culinary experiences and live cooking demonstrations featuring local produce at the Australian Pavilion.

Drawing inspiration from WA’s pristine environment and the State’s unique energy, Chef Silas will showcase WA produce through a menu that highlights the State’s vibrant culinary landscape.

The 2025 World Expo will feature an impressive line-up of WA artists, each selected by the Commonwealth to participate in the Australian Pavilion’s Cultural Program, which will showcase their work on the main stage to an international audience.

First Nations artists Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse will launch the WA Cultural Program in April at the Australian Pavilion with their distinct music and performances in Noongar language.

Disability in the Arts, Disadvantage in the Arts Australia (DADAA) will follow in May with a screen work specifically created for the Expo. DADAA’s event will highlight the work of WA First Nations artists and cultural leaders with disabilities.

Further WA First Nations artists and creatives are scheduled to travel to Osaka later in the year to bring vibrant unique performance to the global Expo stage.

WA trade and investment on the global Expo stage

The WA program of activations at Expo 2025 will showcase the State as a global economic and renewable energy powerhouse with world-leading innovation and capability across Diversify WA priority sectors including:

  • Clean energy
  • Health and medical life sciences
  • Primary industries
  • Tourism
  • Creative industries
  • Space, innovation and technology

The Australian Pavilion’s theme ‘Chasing the Sun’ provides the perfect opportunity to promote WA – the sunniest state in Australia – as a key investment and trade partner in an optimal business time zone.

WA’s participation continues to strengthen our relationship with Japan, our second largest trading partner, and our longstanding sister-state, Hyogo Prefecture, which will be actively involved in hosting Expo 2025 in Osaka, as part of the broader Kansai Region.
