WA’s mining and METS sector showcased at briefing for GRX26 international delegates
Invest and Trade Western Australia (WA) recently supported the Global Resources Innovation Expo 2026 (GRX26), held for the first time in Perth between 5-7 May 2026.
Organised by Austmine and AusIMM, the expo brought together industry leaders to explore the future of energy through the lens of the mining and METS sector.
Alongside the GRX26 program, Invest and Trade WA hosted a briefing for international delegates to provide a high-level overview of the unique energy and mining innovation opportunities available across WA.
International delegates gained greater insight into investment and trade opportunities in WA’s energy and mining equipment, technology and services (METS) sectors, and strategies guiding the State’s renewable energy transition.
Rebecca Brown PSM, Director General of the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification, presented on WA’s economy and the strategies guiding its diversification and decarbonisation approach.
Sonja Montague-Mackay, Executive Director of Investment and Attraction, DEED, facilitated a panel discussion exploring how WA is pioneering global-scale resource projects and engaging international partners. She was joined by:
- Simone Spencer, Deputy Director General of Strategy, Performance and International Engagement, DEED
- Chris Shaw, Director General of Department of Mines and Petroleum and Exploration
- Dave Alexander, Executive Director of Green Energy Projects, DEED
With WA’s deep pool of knowledge in the mining sector, there are significant opportunities for the local METS sector to support international markets.
In addition, with the abundance of natural resources in WA, the State is well placed to power the dynamic industries that underpin its diverse economy and drive innovation in the global energy transition.
